I would say a ladies broach or ladies hair broach from the mid to late 30's or even 40's.

I can't see a Civil War Item being in that good of shape for it's age. I am going to attempt to find a similar one and I'll get back with you.

You may also find that the way the stone(glass?) was cut could help you date the broch, stones cut in the 1800's were cut differently than stones in the early 1900's and most decades following based on new skills in jewelry cutting and in the world of fashion depending the decade

That is a GORGEOUS piece. In fact, it is probably the most beautiful antique jewelry piece I have seen here.

My Guess: 1870s-90s, absolutely not later than 1910. It looks classically Victorian to me. There's a chance it might be an early Art Noveau/1900s (I doubt it) but it does not match the Art Deco or Arts & Crafts of later decades.

It looks like a hat ornament... see the following:

I would say 1920's to 1940's, the glass cut and the patina is not that old. If it was pre 1900 it would be a darker patina probably green, and the glass would be worn not as clear..

The reason it may not have the green patina on it is the soil I found it in was real sandy and it was 8in down, thank you every one for your comments.
